Today is the birthday of Dona Taylor Petsel, aka Memow. She’s a beautiful, wonderful grandma and mother, and she was a loyal and patient farm wife (and yes, that’s different from being a regular wife, because it’s really hard). She still is a kickass dancer and loves to learn new things. She’s silly and funny in all the right ways, a little devious, passionate about what she believes, and a devoted friend. She also has an incredible tolerance for pain – she once slammed her tiny hand (she’s not even five feet tall) in a car door and barely batted an eye. My grandma does pilates, is probably too stubborn, believes in unconditional love, and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. I hope she knows how much we all love her.
Today is also Veteran’s Day, and our chance to honor the women and men who have sacrificed for our country. Sadly, nearly one-third of all adult homeless men are veterans. Is this really the best we can do for those who served?
