Yesterday I found the ultimate bargain: a Charley Harper 2010 day planner at TJ Maxx for less than $10! First off, yes, I still use a day planner. I like writing things down. I like pens. Also, pretty pictures!
I’ve really grown to appreciate Harper’s work over the past year or so. He’s an American Modernist who was born and raised in Frenchton, West Virginia. He left home to go to the Art Academy of Cincinnati, and it was there that he met his wife and opened Harper Studios.
Charley’s work is bright and alive and brings me a sense of both joy and calm – his paintings are uplifting and soothing at the same time. I’ve framed some of his prints in our bedroom, and Jenn recently gave me a new box of his notecards (some of which I will also frame). And now I can look at his work every week as I make my exciting, earth-shaking plans for 2010.
